• Support for Older Carers of People with Learning Disabilities

Caring for a family member with a Learning Disability is a lifelong commitment, which continues even when the person is living away from home. Most Carers would still not recognize themselves as a ‘carer’, just someone trying to cope as best they can while helping to look after a husband, partner , wife, child or friend.

How can we help?

If you are an older carer we may be able to help you by:

  • Providing a range of information about groups and services in West Lancashire that help older people enjoy a healthy and independent lifestyle
  • Providing emotional support—someone to talk to who understands
  • Organising activities and training
  • Letting your voice be heard!

We can also:

  • Help you understand your rights as a carer
  • Help you plan for the future
  • Help you to get access to services
  • Support you at meetings and reviews
  • Help with forms and letter writing
  • Provide practical help
