• Support for Older Carers of People with Learning Disabilities
Caring for a family member with a Learning Disability is a lifelong commitment, which continues even when the person is
living away from home. Most Carers would still not
recognize themselves as a ‘carer’, just someone
trying to cope as best they can while helping to look after a husband, partner , wife, child or friend.
How can we help?
If you are an older carer we may be able to help you by:
- Providing a range of information about groups and services in West Lancashire that help older people enjoy a healthy and independent lifestyle
- Providing emotional support—someone to talk to who understands
- Organising activities and training
- Letting your voice be heard!
We can also:
- Help you understand your rights as a carer
- Help you plan for the future
- Help you to get access to services
- Support you at meetings and reviews
- Help with forms and letter writing
- Provide practical help
